The use of C-reactive protein (CRP) point-of-care testing as an additional diagnostic tool for
differentiation of viral and bacterial infections can enable general physicians decrease
antibiotics prescribing, without compromising patient recovery.
CRP DEVICE
Description
The recommendations are that the patients with a CRP value higher than 100 mg/L should receive antibiotics, while patients with moderately elevated values between 21 and 99 mg/L (20 % of patients) should be carefully assessed based on the combination of medical history, physical examination and CRP value, and a delayed prescription for antibiotics can be considered in selected cases. NeoMedica NW-37 protein analyzer uses immunochromatography principle to measure CRP from only 5µl of blood sample taken from a finger prick or venous whole blood, serum or plasma. The results are available in less than 7 seconds, and the entire testing process can be performed in less than 3 minutes.
